Richard George was CEO of Suncor from 1991 to 2012, a period in which he was instrumental in turning an unreliable and cost prohibitive operation north of Fort McMurray, AB. into a modernized, greener, and highly productive oil sands facility that pumps nearly half a million barrels a day advancing economies nation wide.
Rick was also a respected business voice on the national stage and a passionate defender of the industry’s actions in cleaning up its environmental foot print and image.
Rick understood the impact Suncor had in the Wood Buffalo region and led the company in many philanthropic ventures supporting the region. The Fund was created in memoriam by his wife, Julie, and their three children to honour Rick’s vision, infectious positivity, and integrity. The objective of the Fund is to give support to those programs that deal with community social issues such as mental health, family supports, and violence against women.
